Letters: Dawn Staley should be paid like Frank Martin

Why is USC women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley’s salary almost 50 percent less than men’s coach Frank Martin’s (“New contracts for Martin, Staley approved,” April 22)? Is there a reason other than sex discrimination? Is her job any easier? Does it require less strategical planning?

The fact that her half salary will make her the highest-paid female coach in SEC history only speaks of the long history of discrimination. Remember that Ginger Rogers received little star credit and less pay for doing everything Fred Astaire did, only she did it in high heels and backward.

When does the discrimination end? Why not now with Dawn Staley?
