Letters: There’s an easy way to avoid abortion

The State

If you are “a poor, jobless pregnant woman, who may have several other children at home,” why are you pregnant in the first place? There are lots of ways to not get pregnant, including abstinence (an apparently unthinkable option). And where is the father? You know, the other person it took to get that way?

In her July 10 letter (“Where’s the concern for actual babies?”), Patricia Mohr implies that abortion opponents believe contraception is the same as murder, and that somehow a woman who doesn’t get pregnant in the first place is the equivalent of a murderer. I’m sorry, but if you don’t create a life to begin with, how can you be accused of taking a life?

Neither political party can be blamed for what it only takes two to create. There are hundreds of thousands of abortions performed in this country every year. I wonder how many of the women having them have abstained to prevent a pregnancy in the first place.
