Letters: Where’s the concern for actual babies?

NYT

So Lt. Gov. Kevin Bryant doesn’t want South Carolina to give any money to Planned Parenthood because it performs abortions (“Not a single penny for abortion clinics,” July 2)? I might agree with him if I felt that abortion equals the murder of little children, but I do not.

A fetus is a potential human being; only birth makes it a child. We might as well consider a sperm a half baby. And what does that say for contraception? Isn’t that preventing life? What about IUDs that stop implantation of the zygote in the uterine wall? Is that murder?

Mr. Bryant uses manufactured videos as evidence of Planned Parenthood’s “shocking, disgusting and repellant” conversations. Those videos have been revealed as heavily edited and misleading again and again, but apparently Mr. Bryant doesn’t read those studies.

Mr. Bryant will never have to face the horrible decision that confronts a poor, jobless pregnant woman, who may have several other children at home. He insists that even rape is not a valid reason for an abortion; a potential human is considered to be more valuable than a real one. Meanwhile, I’m still waiting to see any evidence of GOP support and caring for poor people — children or mothers.
