I certainly congratulate Sindarius Thornwell on his excellent senior year leading the Gamecocks to and through March Madness. However, to call him the greatest player in USC basketball history shows a complete lack of knowledge of Gamecock basketball (“Sindarius Thornwell returns to Columbia a conquering hero,” July 21).

There was a player from the relatively recent past named Alex English who excelled for all of his years as a Gamecock — not just his senior year. He went on to become one of the leading scorers in NBA history and made it into the Hall Of Fame. I think it is his due to name him the greatest basketball player in USC basketball history.
