Gun opponents need to check facts

Chicago Tribune

Letter writer Francee Levin should learn the most basic facts about the NRA and guns before declaring war (“2 things to do about gun deaths,” Oct. 14).

She says a bill to make it easier to own a gun “silencer” would make it harder to find killers. The problem with her logic is that silencers do not silence firearms; the sound from firearms with these devices is still higher than the sound of a car siren.

She says the Constitution provides protection for owning muskets, not modern weapons. What the Second Amendment says is, “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
