Worst US drivers? Look North
My curiosity was piqued by Chris Corbacho’s contention that Northerners usually adhere to driving laws, while Southern drivers, with their “self-centered attitudes,” do not (“Left-lane hogs weren’t taught correctly,” Jan. 5).
So I consulted Allstate Insurance’s 2017 study of driving safety in the 200 largest U.S. metro areas. It found that the five cities with safest drivers were Kansas City, Kansas, Brownsville, Texas, Madison, Wisc., Huntsville, Ala., and Cape Coral, Fla. At the bottom of the list were Baltimore, Washington and Boston, Worcester and Springfield, Mass — all of which lie north of the Mason-Dixon Line.
Now if I could find a way to measure Southerners’ self-centeredness, that characterization might turn out to be wrong too.
