Letters: Don’t blame deputy; blame student
I cannot believe how focused The State is on the school resource officer who was unfortunately called in after a teacher and a school administrator failed to get a student to leave the classroom for violating the school’s policy of not using her cell phone.
The root cause of the problem was the student, not the classroom, not the teacher, not the administrator, not the resource officer.

This would not have happened if the student had followed the rules and the request of the teacher and administrator to leave the classroom so the teacher could teach.
Now the community is crucifying the resource officer for using excessive force to remove the student as directed by the school official. I saw the student holding on to her desk to keep the officer from enforcing the school policy. I saw the student punch the officer when he turned over the desk to get her out. How else was he supposed to remove the student from the classroom if she would not let go of the desk?
No wonder the schools can’t teach the students. This student should be removed from Spring Valley High School, because only she could have prevented this from happening.
