Clemson football losing former 4-star defensive tackle to the transfer portal
A Clemson veteran defensive lineman is entering the portal.
Tigers defensive tackle Tré Williams has entered the transfer portal and will play his sixth and final season of college football elsewhere, The State has confirmed.
247Sports was the first to report Williams’ departure.
Williams, a Class of 2020 recruit, played five seasons at Clemson (four years plus a redshirt year) and has his “COVID year” remaining for the 2025 season.
A former top 100 recruit, Williams recorded 42 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, four sacks, two pass breakups and three fumble recoveries across his Tigers career. He played 722 defensive snaps (17.1 snaps per game) over 44 games (four starts).
Williams struggled with injuries at Clemson but broke through as a redshirt senior in 2024, staying healthy and recording his most statistically productive season.
He had 16 tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks, two pass breakups and two fumble recoveries and played 300 snaps across 14 games (three starts).
Williams ended his Clemson career playing 15 snaps and recording two sacks (half his career total) in the Tigers’ first-round CFP loss at Texas on Dec. 21.
Williams, 23, walked during Clemson’s senior day ceremonies earlier this year. He’s a native of Windsor, Connecticut and played his high school football in Washington, D.C. He was the No. 94 overall player in his class, per the 247Sports composite.
He is the fifth scholarship Clemson player to enter the portal. The NCAA’s winter football transfer window closed Saturday (Dec. 28), but Williams has a little more flexibility in when he can declare since he’s a graduate transfer.
