Clemson vs. Troy Vegas odds
Clemson is favored to beat Troy by 33.5 points, per VegasInsider.com.
It’s the first time the Tigers have been favored by that many points against an FBS opponent since 2022 (-33.5 vs. Louisiana Tech). This should be Clemson’s largest point spread of the year until it plays in-state FCS opponent Furman on Nov. 22.
Weather forecast for Clemson, SC
The Clemson area will get a little more rain than it did during last week’s LSU game. The Weather.com 10-day forecast indicates an “isolated thunderstorm,” “gutsy wind” and possible hail on Saturday afternoon and a 56% chance of rain (high of 88 degrees). It’ll clear up and cool down into the evening.
Top storylines for the game
- It’s all about perception for Clemson on Saturday. The Tigers, by all accounts, will win comfortably against Troy. But can Clemson’s offense consistently show the pop it didn’t have against LSU? In 2024, Clemson followed a dismal 34-3 Week 1 loss to Georgia with a 66-20 home blowout of App State. It’s the same situation this year: an opening loss to an SEC team, followed by a home game against a Sun Belt team. With a Week 3 trip to Georgia Tech looming, some explosive plays from quarterback Cade Klubnik and the offense — or simply scoring more than 10 points — could get Clemson headed in the right direction … to some degree.
- On the injury front, Clemson starting receiver Antonio Williams (hamstring) and safety Khalil Barnes (hamstring) are day to day with injuries suffered during the LSU game. Given the opponent, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Clemson hold out Williams and Barnes on Saturday. Coach Dabo Swinney said starting offensive lineman Walker Parks has practiced “a lot more than last week,” when he dressed vs. LSU but only as an emergency option. The Troy game could be a natural opportunity to get Parks some snaps and get him back up to speed.
- A number of Clemson transfers and freshmen should see their first extended time for the Tigers on Saturday. That includes Southeast Missouri State transfer wide receiver Tristan Smith, who only played three of 60 offensive snaps vs. LSU, and Alabama transfer linebacker Jeremiah Alexander, who played zero defensive snaps. Fans are also excited about true freshman running back and top 100 national recruit Gideon Davidson (two snaps vs. LSU). And former basketball player Ian Schieffelin is available to play for the first time this week after the tight end served a one-game suspension vs. LSU for a DUI arrest (later dropped).
- Troy, based in Alabama, has a few signature P4 upsets under its belt. The Trojans have upset Mississippi State (2001), Missouri (2004), Oklahoma State (2007), LSU (2017) and Nebraska (2018). Their history with Clemson is also solid. Troy led Clemson by three points at halftime in their 2011 meeting and 2016 was a one-score game (30-24). This year’s Troy team might not be as talented as those two. In Week 1, it trailed FCS Nicholls as late as the middle of the fourth quarter.
Clemson vs. Troy players to watch
Clemson RB Gideon Davidson: Davidson, the No. 3 RB recruit in his class, only played two snaps vs. LSU and had zero carries or targets. In the Troy game, Clemson’s heir apparent at the running back position should get more opportunity.
Clemson DT Stephiylan Green: A redshirt sophomore defensive tackle, Green was a pleasant surprise Saturday as he broke into the top rotation vs. LSU, played 38 snaps and had five tackles (four solo). That was the most of any DT outside Peter Woods.
Troy RB Tae Meadows: Ran 23 times for 186 yards and a touchdown in Week 1
Troy LB Jordan Stringer: Had a team-high nine tackles and 1.5 TFL vs. Nicholls
