Gamecocks QB Zeb Noland having ‘minor surgical procedure’ on injured knee
Quarterback Zeb Noland will undergo a “minor surgical procedure” Tuesday morning for a meniscus tear in his right knee, South Carolina said in a statement released Monday night.
The school did not immediately say when or how the injury happened.
The Gamecocks are off this week. Noland is “expected to be available” for the Florida game on Nov. 6, the school said.
Noland, who moved from graduate assistant coach to quarterback during fall camp, started in USC’s 44-14 loss at Texas A&M last weekend and played the first three quarters in College Station. He left the game completing 7 of his 12 passes for 30 yards.
Noland was replaced by Jason Brown for the fourth quarter against Texas A&M. Brown, a transfer from FCS St. Francis (Pennsylvania) was 8-of-14 pasing for 84 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions in his third and longest appearance at quarterback for the Gamecocks.
Sophomore Luke Doty had originally been named South Carolina’s starting quarterback before suffering a foot injury in fall camp. Doty came back in for Noland in week three after Noland suffered a hand injury in the first quarter at Georgia. Doty then reinjured his foot against Vanderbilt on Oct. 16 and underwent season-ending surgery last week.
In December 2019, former South Carolina quarterback Ryan Hilinski underwent surgery to repair a “minor tear of the lateral miniscus” in his left knee. Head coach Will Muschamp said Hilinski had sprained his knee against Georgia that October, but Hilinski continued to play for the rest of the season. Hilinski lost the starting job to Collin Hill in 2020 and transferred to Northwestern for 2021.
