Shane Beamer grabbed another commitment via the transfer portal on Monday afternoon.

Central Michigan Safety Devonni Reed announced his pledge to USC on Monday afternoon via Twitter. Reed was a 247Sports Composite three-star prospect out of Belleville High School in Michigan.

He picked South Carolina over offers from Texas, Missouri, Mississippi State, Louisville and Wisconsin, among others.

“Thank you lord! Let’s rock,” Reed Tweeted along with his commitment graphic.

Reed will have immediate eligibility as a graduate transfer at South Carolina. He finished 2021 with 72 total tackles, two interceptions, six pass deflections, one sack, one blocked kick and a fumble recovery before entering the transfer portal Jan. 3.

The 6-foot, 195-pound defensive back was a four-year starter for the Chippewas after taking a redshirt season in 2017.

All-American safety Jaylan Foster exhausted his eligibility in 2021, making Reed’s commitment all the more crucial. Foster led USC in tackles and tied for the national lead in interceptions during the regular season.

Reed figures to slide into the spot vacated by Foster and alongside R.J. Roderick — who announced his intention to return to South Carolina on Jan. 1.

The former Chippewa is the second new commitment in recent days. N.C. State defensive end Terrell Dawkins was the first to make his announcement on Saturday.

Beamer has teased three new commitments to the Gamecocks, though only two have made their decisions public so far.

Reed is South Carolina’s fourth transfer portal addition for the 2022 season. The Gamecocks previously received commitments from Dawkins and former Oklahoma players Spencer Rattler and Austin Stogner.

South Carolina transfer portal commitments

  • QB Spencer Rattler (Oklahoma)
  • TE Austin Stogner (Oklahoma)
  • DL Terrell Dawkins (N.C. State)
  • S Devonni Reed (Central Michigan)
