South Carolina announces opening-night sellout for Georgia State game
South Carolina football will be playing to a full house for its season opener on Saturday against Georgia State.
The school announced on Friday that the game is sold out. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Williams-Brice Stadium.
South Carolina is coming off a 7-6 season in Shane Beamer’s first season as coach. The Gamecocks defeated North Carolina in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl and have built a lot of momentum in the offseason with the addition of several key transfers and recruits including Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler and tight end Austin Stogner.
Upgrades have been made to the stadium over the summer to enhance the fan experience — including a new sound system, LED lights, expanded patio space and more.
The Gamecocks also have been featured on ESPNU for the past month in a “Welcome Home” series.
“This is an unbelievable college town,” USC coach Shane Beamer said this week. “And to be able to get out and experience what a college town is like on a Saturday, leading into a Saturday night in Columbia is pretty special and a great opportunity.”
Williams-Brice has a capacity of 77,559. Ticketmaster as of Friday morning was still showing a handful of face-value tickets ($40 each) remaining for the game, with resale prices ranging from $84 to $176 each.
USC had two sellouts in 2021. Clemson had an announced attendance of 79,897, while Kentucky was at 77,559.
Georgia State, which is plays in the Sun Belt, is coming off an 8-5 season. The Panthers are coached by Camden native and former USC assistant Shawn Elliott. GSU has 20 players on its roster from the state of South Carolina.
