Ball State transfer TE Brady Hunt flips his commitment from Gamecocks, reports say
South Carolina is losing one of its transfer portal commits.
Ball State transfer Brady Hunt, who committed to South Carolina in mid-December and was announced as part of the Gamecocks signing class, has flipped to Texas A&M, according to reports from Gamecock Central and The Big Spur.
Because Hunt is a transfer, he doesn’t need to sign a national letter of intent but, rather, just a financial aid agreement to be announced at the coach Shane Beamer’s signing day press conference. And, unlike an NLI, financial aid agreements are non-binding.
So the only tight end South Carolina signed out of the transfer portal this offseason will not be in Columbia, which could mean the Gamecocks will search for another in the portal shortly.
Hunt was expected to contribute quickly. The 6-foot-6, 249-pound former quarterback did not play in 2023 because of an ankle injury. In 2022, he caught 46 passes for nearly 500 yards and five scores.
Beamer said the Gamecocks noticed Hunt back in 2022. When preparing for a game against Tennessee, the scouting included watching a Volunteers game against Ball State.
“We were like, ‘Who the heck is this Ball State tight end?’” Beamer said. “We didn’t know it at the time, but almost two years later, he decided to go into a portal.”
