South Carolina third-year defensive tackle Jamaal Whyce will enter the transfer portal when it opens, he announced Monday.

He posted this message Monday morning to X (Twitter): “Good morning gamecocks nation after 3 years I will be entering my name in the portal. I love the gamecocks and the fans but it’s time to start a new journey.”

Whyce redshirted at South Carolina in 2022 and played in five games in 2023. He had two tackles in two games in the 2024 season, playing in the Gamecocks’ wins over Akron and Wofford.

He signed with USC as a three-star recruit out of Miami in the 2022 class.

The transfer portal does not officially open until Monday, Dec. 9, but it’s common for players to announce their intentions to enter the portal ahead of that date.

Whyce is the second Gamecock to announce plans to leave the program. Offensive lineman Ni Mansell also said he’ll enter the portal once it opens next week.
