Just three days after South Carolina’s spring game, a redshirt freshman offensive lineman is leaving the Gamecocks roster.

Gamecocks’ O-lineman Kam Pringle, a former four-star recruit out of Woodland High in Dorchester, announced Monday that he is entering the transfer portal.

Pringle was an highlight addition to South Carolina’s 2023 recruiting class, which also included five-star offensive tackle Josiah Thompson and three-star O-lineman Blake Franks.

“I have an opportunity to go in and play early, make an impact to the team,” he said when he committed to USC in January 2023. “Of course, it is close and it is right under an hour from my house. All my family can come see me play.”

Pringle seemed to have immense potential of playing quickly at South Carolina, in part because of his size. He enrolled at South Carolina measuring in at 6-foot-8, 368 pounds and became one of the rare freshman offensive lineman who arrived to college and needed to drop weight.

In a matter of months, he lost 40 pounds before coming in this spring at 336 pounds.

During practices, Pringle was observed playing tackle, which was notable considering it made his path toward playing that much tougher. The Gamecocks returned its starting left tackle (Thompson) and starting right tackle (Cason Henry), forcing a number of young tackles like Tree Babalade and others to start playing guard.

He played briefly for the Gamecocks in 2024 against Akron but otherwise didn’t see the field. He did not dress for Saturday’s spring game.
