Rahsul Faison back with Gamecocks for preseason practice. Here’s what we saw
Rahsul Faison practiced on Saturday — finally.
The South Carolina tailback running around for the second day of the Gamecocks’ preseason camp came a day after another odd sequence in what continues to be a bizarre saga.
Though Faison, a transfer from Utah State, is still awaiting final word from the NCAA on whether his waiver for a seventh year of eligibility will be approved or denied, no one — including USC coach Shane Beamer — thought that would also keep Faison in limbo for practice.
But as the Gamecocks began camp on Friday, Faison was nowhere to be seen. A university source told The State that Faison was absent because, without an NCAA ruling, he is technically out of eligibility. South Carolina filed an emergency waiver requesting approval for him to practice.
Faison’s lawyer, Darren Heitner, confirmed to The State on Friday afternoon that the NCAA acted quickly — for maybe the first time ever — and granted Faison’s waiver ... to practice.
Which brought us to Saturday. As the Gamecocks’ running backs went through drills, Faison was among those in line with the returners, specifically for kickoff returns.
