South Carolina freshman out long term with injury, Shane Beamer says
South Carolina football will be without a few guys for an extended period of time, head coach Shane Beamer announced on Tuesday.
Among those is true freshman edge Kobby Sakyi-Prah, a three-star prospect from Roswell, Georgia who enrolled at South Carolina in the summer.
Sakyi-Prah, Beamer said, is out with a “lower-body injury that will be somewhat long term. I wouldn’t expect him back any time soon.”
Another young guy who’s dealing with a long-term injury is redshirt freshman defensive back Jackson Burger. A walk-on who played his high school ball at Catawba Ridge, Burger was impressive during the spring game, making a few tackles.
“He was really doing some great things for us from a defensive back and special teams standpoint, going back to the spring.” Beamer said of Burger. “The rate he improved from last year to now is really impressive. He’ll be out for a while.”
One other injury note Beamer touched on was running back Rahsul Faison. As he awaits a decision from the NCAA about whether or not he’ll be granted a seventh year of eligibility, Faison missed practice on Sunday.
Beamer noted that Faison suffered a shoulder bruise during USC’s scrimmage on Saturday night, but was back practicing with the team on Tuesday.
Beamer also updated the status of DB Jalon Kilgore — who was observed off to the side with trainers during Sunday’s practice — and edge Desmond Umeozulu.
“Des will be fine — got banged up in the scrimmage the other night,” Beamer said. “Jalon has a little bit of a soft-tissue injury on the lower body. But if we played today, they would play.”
