Will LaNorris Sellers play against Missouri? What the SEC injury report tells us
There is now optimism that South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers will play on Saturday at No. 23 Missouri (3-0).
Late in the first half of USC’s loss to Vanderbilt last week, Sellers left the game with a concussion and didn’t return. Since then, head coach Shane Beamer has been tight-lipped about the availability of his star quarterback.
But on the SEC-mandated student-athlete availability report, which was released Wednesday night, Sellers was listed as “questionable” — which is a positive sign.
While declining to discuss Sellers’ health, Beamer noted that South Carolina (2-1, 1-0 SEC) has a consistent policy that guys who don’t practice on Tuesday and Wednesday won’t play on Saturday.
And, per Phil Kornblut of SportsTalk Media Network, Sellers practiced on Wednesday “and should be fine for the Missouri game this Saturday.”
Though he came into the season with Heisman hype, Sellers has struggled this season, completing 64% of his passes for 431 yards and two touchdowns while running for less than 50 total yards.
When Sellers went down against Vandy, backup quarterback Luke Doty took over the Gamecocks. In the seven drives Doty led, South Carolina scored zero points and turned the ball over three times.
But as the Gamecocks try and get their first SEC win of the season, there continues to be positive signs that the Gamecocks will have the services of No. 16. But what about everyone else?
Here’s Wednesday’s full South Carolina injury report.
