About South Carolina

The Gamecocks nearly added a significant bright spot to an overall disappointing season against the Crimson Tide. USC led going into the fourth quarter and found itself on offense with 2:16 on the clock and a tie game. The upset dream died seconds later as quarterback LaNorris Sellers fumbled and opened the door for Alabama’s game-winning touchdown. USC is now 3-5 (1-5 in the SEC) and on the edge of missing a bowl game.

About Ole Miss

Ole Miss has fared much better than USC this year. Headed by quarterback Trinidad Chambliss and head coach Lane Kiffin, the Rebels are 7-1 overall and 3-1 in the SEC, with high aspirations for a spot in the College Football Playoff. Ole Miss’ one loss came on the road against Georgia. The Bulldogs rallied behind QB Gunnar Stockton’s four touchdowns to win 43-35. Ole Miss bounced back last weekend in Norman, Oklahoma in a 34-26 win against Brent Venables and the Sooners.

Players to watch: Gamecocks and Rebels

South Carolina

Jayden Sellers, WR: The brother of USC’s star QB, Sellers has made his own name in the past few weeks. He led the team with six receptions and 57 receiving yards against Oklahoma and earned a starting spot against Alabama. He recorded three catches for 38 yards against the Tide, including a key 22-yard reception that set up a penalty-negated touchdown and an eventual field goal. Sellers should get another chance at quality snaps against the Rebels.

Peyton Williams, DB: Beamer credited his defensive front for a standout performance against Alabama, but Williams quietly shut down the Tide’s passing offense. He finished with a team-high six solo tackles and two pass breakups. USC’s secondary has been banged up all year and is still getting back into a regular flow. Williams was a big factor in the group’s progress against Alabama.

Ole Miss

Trinidad Chambliss, QB: Chambliss has been one of college football’s best stories this season. A transfer from Division II Ferris State, he came in for starting QB Austin Simmons in Week 3 against Arkansas and has held the job ever since. Chambliss is up to 1,549 passing yards and eight touchdowns with just one interception. He threw for 315 yards against Oklahoma. There’s no QB controversy in Oxford — Chambliss will lead the Ole Miss offense against USC.

TJ Dottery, LB: Dottery has been a force as Ole Miss’ leading tackler this season, and the junior once again led his team with six tackles against Oklahoma. He’ll have his hands full trying to contain Sellers through the air and on the ground, but expect him to finish the game atop the box score once again.
