Timeline: One month on the job for Will Muschamp

Will Muschamp has been a whirlwind of activity since being named South Carolina’s 34th head football coach. A look at the highlights from his first month:

Dec. 7

After introductory press conference during which he vows to make recruiting a top priority and to hire assistants who are good recruiters, Muschamp visits RNE linebacker T.J. Brunson and Conway WR Bryan Edwards.

Dec. 8

Hires Travaris Robinson as defensive coordinator and Bobby Bentley as RB coach.

Dec. 9

Visits QB commitment Brandon McIlwain in Newtown, Pa.

Dec. 10

Cleveland Browns confirm Kurt Roper will leave at end of season to john Muschamp’s staff as offensive coordinator. Asks Ellis Johnson to join his staff.

Dec. 12-13

Hosts a number of recruiting visits, including Edwards and McIlwain.

Dec. 14

Retains Shawn Elliott as offensive line coach and hires Jeff Dillman as director of strength and conditioning.

Dec. 15

Edwards re-commits to Muschamp and USC, and RB C.J. Freeman affirms his commitment.

Dec. 16

Adds Marcus Lattimore to staff as Life Skills coach.

Dec. 17

McIlwain announces he’s sticking with Gamecocks and will enroll in January.

Dec. 18

Adds Coleman Hutzler as special teams coach, Clyde Wrenn as director of high school relations and promotes Robbie Liles to director of player personnel.

Dec. 19

Offers Class of 2017 QB recruit Jake Bentley.

Dec. 23

Adds Bryan McClendon from Georgia as co-offensive coordinator/WR coach and Pat Washington as TE coach.

Jan. 2

Gets commitment from highly-rated wide receiver Cavin Ridley.

Jan. 4

Confirms Roper as new offensive coordinator.
