What was Steve Spurrier’s favorite zinger of all-time?
Steve Spurrier’s favorite jab about an opposing team might not be the one you thought he would have picked.
The former South Carolina -- and Florida -- coach is known for his one-liners about rivals such as Tennessee, Florida State and Georgia.
Everybody remembers when Spurrier said FSU stands for “Free Shoes U,” or when he made fun of Florida’s dominance against Tennessee when he said you can’t spell Citrus Bowl without U and T.
But at a golf tournament in Knoxville over the weekend, Spurrier told ESPN.com’s Chris Low how he answered the question form Tennessee fans.
“They were asking me about all those things I said, the Citrus Bowl jokes and stuff,” Spurrier said to Low. “I told them I always thought the best one didn’t have anything to do with Tennessee or FSU. It’s the one I said about preferring to play Georgia the second week of the season because you could always count on them having two or three good players suspended every year. Everybody said, ‘Did you really say that?’ and I said, ‘Yes, because it’s true.’ ”
