Fired equipment manager to remain on staff at USC
Former longtime South Carolina equipment manager Chris Matlock, who was dismissed Friday along with his staff, will continue to work in the USC athletics department, Gamecocks AD Ray Tanner told The State on Saturday.
Matlock came to South Carolina under former Gamecocks coach Lou Holtz in 2000, but was fired by current USC coach Will Muschamp on Friday.
Matlock posted on Facebook Saturday afternoon, “Hey! After a couple of conversations with Coach Tanner, I will remain in athletics.”
Tanner confirmed the news at Saturday’s baseball game.
Matlock previously worked for Notre Dame and the Indianapolis Colts before arriving in Columbia.
Since his arrival in Columbia, he has been involved with the Palmetto Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, serving on the Board of Directors.
