Combine update as Day 3 begins

INDIANAPOLIS | It’s time to get down to business here.

The part of the NFL Combine that most folks consider the NFL Combine begins today with players starting their workouts for scouts. The actual workouts are closed to most members of the media because the NFL Network has an exclusive contract to broadcast them, so any of you who have the NFL Network might know before me how many times Tori Gurley can bench press 225 times or how fast Wes Saunders runs the 40.

Speaking of Saunders, Friday was a busy day here, mostly due to Saunders’ revelations about why he spent all of 2010 on the sidelines. We’ve got all you could possibly want to know on that story on GoGamecocks.com so be sure to read up on anything you missed.

Also, don’t miss Cliff Matthews’ diary. I talked to Matthews just before 11 p.m. on Friday. He was clearly exhausted, and that was without lifting a pound or running a yard. His day was filled with medical exams, a combine orientation and interviews with teams.

We’re going to try to talk to Cliff every day he is here about what happened that day. Cliff will take the Wonderlic test today, so I’m eager to hear his opinion on it tonight. Be sure to fire me a question in the comment section here, on Twitter (@JoshatTheState) or at jkendall@thestate.com if you’ve got any specific questions.
