South Carolina men’s basketball adding another in-state transfer
First-year head South Carolina men’s basketball coach Lamont Paris continues to work the NCAA transfer portal.
The Gamecocks added a commitment from Coastal Carolina point guard Ebrima Dibba on Wednesday, Dibba announced via Instagram.
Dibba is a 6-foot-6 point guard who averaged 8.1 points per game on 45.9% shooting, including a 35.5% clip from 3-point range last season. He had five points, six rebounds and four assists in Coastal’s win over South Carolina on Dec. 1.
A native of Bredang, Skarholmen, Sweden, Dibba led the Chanticleers and the Sun Belt Conference with 173 assists last year, averaging 5.5 per game.
Dibba was a four-year starter at CCU, with the exception of his sophomore season in 2019-20 when he missed much of the year due to injury.
Dibba attended high school at St. Benedict’s Preparatory School in Newark, New Jersey, where he led the team to two back-to-back state championships in 2017 and 2018. St. Benedict’s finished with an ESPN top 10 ranking both years.
Paris has added four players to the Gamecocks’ roster out of the transfer portal since April 16, including two players from South Carolina schools — Hayden Brown from The Citadel and Dibba from Coastal Carolina.
Dibba’s departure is part of a tumultuous 2022 for coach Cliff Ellis’ Chanticleers. He is losing at least seven players to the portal and an NBA draft declaration, and received commitments from at least four transfers, including 6-8 Conway High grad Jimmy Nichols who played at VCU last year after beginning his collegiate career at Providence.
