South Carolina has slew of commits in town leading into first signing day
South Carolina football is scheduled for several commitments to to take officials visits this weekend in cornerback O’Donnell Fortune, offensive lineman Trai Jones, running back Rashad Amos, wide receiver Rico Powers and defensive tackle Makius Scott. Committed running back Marshawn Lynch also is in for the weekend according to his Instagram.
GamecockCentral and TheBigSpur reported Gamecock commitment DT Alex Huntley is taking an official visit to Virginia this weekend. This appears to be an offshoot of the uncertainty surrounding Will Muschamp earlier in the month. The Cavaliers were able to schedule Huntley, who is originally from Maryland, for a visit and he is following through.
The elephant in the room was Hammond defensive end Jordan Burch. He has dumbfounded all recruiting followers by his ability to be one of the nation’s most high profile prospects yet keep his recruiting activity almost secret. It is known that Clemson’s Dabo Swinney and Georgia’s Kirby Smart visited with Burch this week because there are pictures of the two coaches at Burch’s basketball games Wednesday and Thursday nights respectively. The Alabama Rivals sited reported Nick Saban visited in the home Monday night. Burch has taken official visits to LSU and Alabama and he posted an Instagram picture from Georgia this weekend.
Running back ZaQuandre White, who publicly committed to USC on Thursday, said Friday night he’s still not talked with Will Muschamp but did text with Thomas Brown. He plans to sign next week but the day has not been set. White is finished at Iowa Western Community College and is returning home to Ft. Myers, Florida where he will finish up some online classes.

▪ Gamecocks tight end target Jaheim Bell of Valdosta, Georgia will announce on Wednesday. He has had USC, Florida State and Oklahoma as his favorites. The Seminoles tossed Bell something else to think about Friday when his quarterback, Tate Rodemaker, committed to them. Rodemaker also is the son of the Valdosta head coach.
▪ South Carolina offered 2021 linebacker Ese Dubre of Powder Springs, Georgia.
