Top 5 national recruit Agot Makeer commits to Dawn Staley, South Carolina
Another birdie has landed in Dawn Staley’s nest.
Five-star combo guard Agot Makeer announced Saturday that she’s committed to play for South Carolina. Makeer is the consensus No. 4 recruit in the Class of 2025.
“No long caption, just know I’m home,” Makeer said in a post on social media.
South Carolina beat out UConn and Michigan State for Makeer’s talents.
“I have a pretty good relationship with Coach Staley,” Makeer told On3 in August. “It’s one of the powerhouses of women’s basketball like UConn. It’s really cool to be recruited by them and I love what they do there for black women, especially. I really like that and I have a good relationship with the coaching staff.”
Makeer is a Fargo, North Dakota native who was raised in Thunder Bay, Ontario in Canada. During her junior season at Crestwood Prep she averaged 19.3 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists. This year, her senior season, Makeer has played at Montverde Academy in Florida and averaged 10 points and 5.7 rebounds.
“I’m a very competitive person,” Makeer told On3. “My work ethic isn’t like a lot of the other girls in my class, and I feel like that puts me ahead sometimes. I’m versatile in a way that my body is different, I can get to the rim and score from the perimeter.”
Makeer, who is listed at 6-foot-1, brings the tally of McDonald’s All-Americans in Staley’s 2025 recruiting class to two. She joins five-star guard Ayla McDowell (ranked No. 22 for 2025), who signed with South Carolina in October.
USC offered Makeer in January 2024. Makeer was one of the last two players in the espnW Top 100 recruiting rankings to commit to a school.
The final player in the top 100 of the class of 2025 that remains uncommitted is No. 1 recruit Aaliyah Chavez. The Gamecocks are a finalist for Chavez, and she will announce a college commitment on March 25.
