Former Gamecock Laeticia Amihere waived days before start of WNBA season
Former Gamecock Laeticia Amihere was waived by the WNBA’s Golden State Valkyries on Wednesday.
The Valkyries, an expansion team in their first year of competition, announced their first official roster on Wednesday and Amihere was not listed. Amihere was signed by the Valkyries on Feburary 6, five days after she was waived by the Atlanta Dream.
Amihere played in two preseason games with the Valkyries and came off the bench in both. In a close loss to the LA Sparks, Amihere recorded 20 points in 19 minutes. In Amihere’s second preseason game against the Mercury she recorded five points in 16 minutes of play.
“Thank you fams and everyone for the love,” Amihere said in a post on X. “To God be the glory and thank you Valkyries for the opportunity.”
She was initially drafted by the Dream with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft. Amihere averaged two points and 1.3 rebounds across 37 games in her two full seasons with the Dream.
Amihere joins two more former South Carolina women’s basketball players in Mikiah Herbert Harrigan and Bree Hall who were waived before the start of the WNBA season.
The WNBA’s regular season starts May 16.
