Who’s in? Who’s out? The playoff picture for Midlands high school soccer teams

The regular season is starting to wind down for area high school boys and girls soccer teams.

Here is a look at where things stand with two weeks in the regular season for Midlands programs. Playoffs start May 1 for public school soccer teams SC Independent Schools playoffs start May 8.

Region records (in parentheses) are as of April 18.

Boys Soccer

Region 3-5A: Clover (7-2) is in first place with Nation Ford (6-2) in second. Fort Mill (5-2) is third and Blythewood (5-4) fourth. Spring Valley (2-7) is fifth and Rock Hill (0-8) last. The top four teams in the region qualify for playoffs and fifth-place has a shot for at-large bid.

Region 4-5A: River Bluff (5-1) is in first and can win the region with wins over Dutch Fork (2-4) on Friday and Chapin (4-2) next week. Lexington (5-2) is in second and still has a shot at the region crown along with Chapin.

Region 4-4A: North Augusta (6-0) has clinched the region title. The race for second is between South Aiken (5-2) and Aiken (4-3). Midland Valley (2-4) has clinched at least the fourth spot.

Region 5-4A: AC Flora (8-0) has clinched the region championship with two games left. Irmo (5-2) is second with Lugoff-Elgin (4-3) and Ridge View (4-3) tied for fourth. Westwood (1-7) is fifth and Richland Northeast (1-8) sixth.

Region 5-3A: Dreher (9-1) is the region champion after defeating Brookland-Cayce (9-1) in a region tiebreaker game, 3-2. Gilbert (6-4) is third. Swansea (4-6) is fourth.

Region 6-3A: Crestwood (9-0) has clinched the region championship. Lake City (7-2) is second. Camden (4-4) and Darlington (4-4) are tied for third, and those two teams play Friday.

Region 2-2A: Newberry (6-1) leads Saluda (5-1) by a half-game. The two teams split their season series. Mid-Carolina (2-3) and Abbeville (2-4) are battling for the third and fourth spot, and those two teams play on Thursday.

Region 2-3A: Batesburg-Leesville (5-1) leads the region and is done with region games. Silver Bluff (4-1) is second but can tie for first if it wins next week against Fox Creek. The two teams split their season series. Fox Creek (1-3) is third and Strom Thurmond (0-5) fourth.

Region 4-2A: Gray Collegiate (7-0) leads the region and can clinch it by defeating Columbia (5-1) next week or one more Caps’ loss. Eau Claire (3-2) is third. Keenan and Fairfield Central are battling it out for fourth.

SCISA 1-4A: Cardinal Newman (3-0) leads the way and has three region matches left, two against Heathwood Hall (1-2) and one against Hammond (2-1). Ben Lippen (1-5) is fourth.

Girls Soccer

Region 3-5A: Clover (8-1) leads the region and Blythewood (7-1) is a half-game back. The two teams split their two matches. Fort Mill (5-3) is in third. Nation Ford (3-6) and Spring Valley (2-6) are battling for fourth spot. The two play each other on Friday.

Region 4-5A: River Bluff (5-1) and Chapin (5-1) are tied for first and play each other next Tuesday. River Bluff won, 1-0, on March 24. Lexington (4-3) is in third place. Dutch Fork (1-5) leads White Knoll (1-6) for fourth, and the two teams have split their season series.

Region 4-4A: South Aiken (6-1) leads Aiken (5-2) and two teams play on Friday with first-place on line. Airport (3-3) leads North Augusta (2-4) for third. The two teams play on April 26.

Region 5-4A: AC Flora (8-0) is in first and needs one more win to clinch the region title. Ridge View (5-2) is second and the Blazers play Flora next week. Irmo (4-3) is third and Lugoff-Elgin (3-3) is fourth. Westwood (2-6) is fifth.

Region 5-3A: Dreher (9-0) has clinched the region championship. Gilbert (7-2) needs a win or Swansea (4-3) loss to wrap up second. Brookland-Cayce (5-5) is in fourth place but could move up to third.

Region 6-3A: Camden (9-0) has wrapped up the region championship. Darlington (7-2) is second. Crestwood (5-4) is third with Marlboro County (3-5) and Lake City (2-7) battling for fourth.

Region 2-2A: Mid-Carolina (7-0) leads the region and can win it by defeating Ninety-Six (5-1) next week or another N-S loss. Newberry (3-4) has wrapped up third and Saluda (2-5) fourth.

Region 3-2A: Fox Creek (7-0) has won the region. Strom Thurmond (4-2) can clinch second with a win or a Silver Bluff (3-4) loss. Batesburg-Leesville (2-5) leads Pelion (1-6) for fourth.

Region 4-2A: Gray Collegiate (8-0) has won the region and Columbia (4-2) is second. Third and fourth place is between Keenan, Eau Claire and Fairfield Central.

SCISA 1-4A: Hammond (6-0) leads the region with Cardinal Newman (6-1) in second. The two teams play again April 27. Augusta Christian is in third, Ben Lippen fourth and Heathwood Hall fifth.
