Three Midlands players, Josiah James on USA Today’s All-State basketball team

Three Midlands players were named on the South Carolina USA Today’s American Family Insurance All-USA state team released Tuesday.

Ridge View center Malcolm Wilson was a first-team selection while Blythewood’s Tre Jackson and Cardinal Newman’s Chico Carter were second-team selections.

Wilson, a Georgetown signee, averaged 6.3 points, 9.0 rebounds and 5.2 blocks in helping the Blazers to second straight Class 4A state title.

Joining Wilson on the first team was Porter-Gaud’s Josiah James, Dorman’s Myles Tate and PJ Hall and Nation Ford’s Zeb Graham. James, a Tennessee signee and state’s top prospect was named Player of the Year. Lexington native and Dorman coach Thomas Ryan was named Coach of the Year for third straight year.

Jackson averaged 21.8 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.2 steals and 3.6 assists a game this season for Blythewood. The Iowa State signee also was named MVP of Carolinas Classic All-Star game after hitting a record eight 3-pointers.

Carter averaged 24.5 points, 5.6 points and 4.0 assists in helping the Cardinals to the SCSIA 3A championship. He signed with Murray State.

South Carolina signee Trae Hannibal of Hartsville and Gamecock commit Jalyn McCreary of Legacy Charter were second-team selections along with Christ Church’s John Butler.
