Hammond, Columbia pull out 4th-quarter wins, Airport outlasts Dreher

Jackson Muschamp hit Cleo Canty on a 68-yard pass with 7:43 left to help Hammond to a 15-12 win over Charlotte Country Day on Friday.

Muschamp finished 12-of-23 for 162 yards and two touchdowns and one interception. The interception was returned for a touchdown to give Charlotte Country Day a 12-7 lead in the fourth.

But the Skyhawks answered with the touchdown and Jordan Burch threw the two-point conversion to make it 15-12. Burch had 58 yards rushing and also blocked a field goal.

Canty had four catches for 105 yards.

Columbia 40, Keenan 34

Jo Jo Puch hit Jaylin Broadnax on an 81-yard touchdown pass with 2:46 left to give the Capitals the win at Benedict College.

Puch finished with two TD passes, both to Broadnax and Thomas Green ran for two scores for Columbia.

Brookland-Cayce 42, White Knoll 35

Brookland-Cayce quarterback Reed Charpia accounted for touchdowns, including the game-winning 4-yard run with 3:23 left to give the Bearcats the victory.

Charpia finished with 244 yards of offense. Running back Will Way rushed for 155 yards and Jo Pradubsri caught six passes for 100 yards and a TD.

White Knoll quarterback Aveon Smith threw for 193 yards and rushed for 153 with five total TDs. Smith hit Jamias Holloway on a 50-yard pass to put the Timberwolves up 35-34 with 4:51 left.

The two teams combined for 928 yards of total offense.

Gilbert 35, Gray Collegiate 28

DeAndre Cook ran for 165 yards and three touchdowns as Gilbert won its 11th straight regular season game.

Cook’s third touchdown put the Indians up 35-21 in the fourth quarter.

Hunter Helms threw two touchdown passes to Nykeem Smith and Julian Jackson ran for a TD for Gray Collegiate.

Airport 49, Dreher 35

Brandon Caughman threw for three touchdowns and Nanders Lawrence accounted for three scores as Airport won its opener with a win over Dreher on Friday night.

Lawrence had a 37-yard touchdown to put Airport up 28-20 at halftime. He finished with 129 yards rushing and caught one pass for 35 yards. Caughman was 9-of-12 for 141 yards.

Dreher’s Da Da Washington had two TDs, the second to tie it at 28 with 7:36 left in third quarter.

Lawrence gave the Eagles the lead back in the fourth on a 2-yard run and Caughman hit Emari Melidor on a 43-yard score to make it 42-28.

Westwood 53, Lugoff-Elgin 14

Ahman Green threw five touchdown passes and Westwood scored on two special teams touchdowns in the win over Lugoff-Elgin on Friday night.

Green had three TD passes in first half as Westwood jumped out to a 21-0 lead at halftime. The Redhawks scored on three straight possessions in the second half.

Green finished with 164 yards in the air and also rushed for 40.

Cortes Braham and Christian Horn each caught two touchdown passes. Horn also returned the opening kickoff of the second half for a TD, and T.J Blanding had a punt return for a score.

River Bluff 61, Fort Mill 34

Braden Walker rushed for 259 yards and accounted for four touchdowns as the Gators rolled in their season opener.

The 61 points were a school-record for a single game.

Walker had touchdown runs of 56 and 57 yards and also a 90-yard kickoff return. As a team, River Bluff ran for 435 yards.

Lower Richland 14, Swansea 8

Quarterback Dedrick Starkes scored on a touchdown run in the fourth quarter to help the Diamond Hornets past the Tigers.

Starkes accounted for both TDs and finished with 60 yards rushing. Jamison Ganzy split time with Starkes at QB and had 135 yards of total offense.

Defensive end Danique Smith led the defense with two sacks and eight tackles.

Cardinal Newman 16, John Paul II 14

AJ DePalma hit John Javis with a 51-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to give the Cardinals the road win.

DePalma threw for 209 yards and two touchdowns. Jacob Cowan caught three passes for 94 yards and a TD.

Batesburg-Leesville 15, Ridge Spring Monetta 8

Keshoun Williams scored on a 12-yard run with 6:44 left to help the Panthers past RSM.

B-L trailed 8-0 at halftime but tied it in the third quarter on a 7-yard run by Tayvon Wilson. Marvin Gantt led the Panthers with 70-yards rushing.

Hilton Head Prep 45, Northside Christian 0

Stone McDonald threw for 183 yards, rushed for 118 and accounted for four TDs for Hilton Head Prep.

Thursday

Eau Claire 44, Lewisville 18

Michael Kelly won his debut as EC coach and the Shamrocks won their first season opener since 2008.

Ron Davis had a fumble return for a touchdown and caught a TD pass. Quarterback Jordan Howell and Shytell O’Neal each had TD runs and Javis Lucas returned a punt for a score.

Trinity-Byrnes 26, Ben Lippen 25

Ben Lippen trailed by 20 points but comeback fell just short.

The Falcons drove 99 yards in less than a minute and scored to pull within 26-25. But Trinity-Byrnes stopped Ben Lippen on a two-point conversion and recovered onside kick.

Rob Gordon had a touchdown pass to Ryan Fleming and Fleming also ran for two touchdowns.

Robert E. Lee 21, Heathwood Hall 7

Ronnie Porter had Heathwood’s lone TD. The Highlanders led 7-0 at halftime.
