Five things you need to know about Super Bowl 50
1. Odds
The Carolina Panthers, going to the Super Bowl for the second time in franchise history, are 4 point favorites against the Denver Broncos. The over/under on the game was settling in at 45 points in early betting.
2. Can I buy tickets?
No general admission tickets are for sale through Ticketmaster. Tickets to the game will be nearly impossible to come by if you’re not well-connected, lucky or both. SeatGeek is reporting average resale ticket prices are $5,335.
3. Local connections
Panthers CB Josh Norman is from Greenwood and played at Coastal Carolina, as did Panthers FB Mike Tolbert. Former USC WR Damiere Byrd is on the Carolina practice squad. Safety Darian Stewart (USC) had a big day for Denver before leaving with an injury, but he says he’ll be back for the Super Bowl.
4. Panthers best team ever?
A victory over the Broncos would give Carolina an 18-1 mark, which would tie for the best record over a 19-game season. (When the Miami Dolphins went undefeated in 1972, they only had to win 17 games).
5. Best matchup
Panthers’ Cam Newton (entertainer, icon ... and Super Bowl QB) vs. Denver DE Von Miller. Newton will take the dab to the big stage. Miller had 2½ sacks, an interception that set up a TD and a pass breakup against the Pats.
