If you haven’t figured it out yet, the total eclipse that is going to plunge Columbia into darkness for about two and a half minutes at 2:41 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 21, is a big deal.

The city is marketing itself as “home to the longest total solar eclipse for a metro area on the East Coast” (www.totaleclipsecolumbiasc.com) and will host Total Eclipse Weekend Columbia, with more than 50 eclipse-related events from Friday, Aug. 18, through Monday, Aug. 21.

Some of those events are planned to keep visitors and residents entertained during the dark hours – you know, the normal ones at night.

With so many events to choose from, how can one possibly plan a perfect Total Eclipse Weekend? Well, we’re here to help. Here are a few of our favorite nighttime offerings announced so far:

‘The Solar Eclipse Plays’

Get an early start on the weekend with Jasper Project presents “Syzygy: The Solar Eclipse Plays.” These are premieres of six 10-minute plays written by six South Carolina playwrights to commemorate the eclipse.
