Bottoms Up: Mango Madness at Private Property

It has been uncharacteristically hot in Columbia, so it might be wise to head to Lexington to cool off ... as in head to Private Property in Lexington for a Mango Madness drink to cool off.

The drink comes in a hurricane style glass and mixes strawberry and mango puree, Captain Morgan rum and Amaretto to create what essentially amounts to an adult slushy/smoothie. Its fruity flavors are so tasteful that it masks the taste of the liquor, leaving your taste buds in a state of paradise.

According to Joey Rouse, Private Property’s lead bartender, the Mango Madness flies off the bar when the weather gets warm. Thirsty drinkers love to enjoy them outside on Private Property’s back patio area.

“People love the bar because it’s such an intimate place to sit and talk,” Rouse said. “It gets so popular that people start ordering from outside and we’re sending these (Mango Madness) drinks out two at a time to the patio.”

The drink is reminiscent of younger days, when smoothies and slushies were sure-fire ways to beat the heat in the scorching summer months. Rouse added that the drink is even popular with people who aren’t really alcohol drinkers, because it tastes like there is none at all.

Because of the relatively new restaurant and bar’s growing popularity, patrons are always looking for more.

“Even though we‘re tucked away and we don’t have a big sign out front, people have started to come to us more often. We have even gotten people asking us to expand the bar to hold more people.”

The Mango Madness might quell some of those requests to be seated inside, because after just one taste it’s clear that it’s best enjoyed outside.
