Singer-songwriter Andy Grammer is feeling good after going from hustling street performer to platinum-selling recording artist.

The Los Angeles-based musician spent years post-college as a busker on Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade. It was there he was discovered by Steve Greenberg of S-Curve Records in 2009 and signed to a record deal.

His discovery was the start of many “pinch me” moments, Grammer said. “Getting signed you pinch yourself, then you realize, they signed me and I’m expected to do so much, oh my God!”

A self-titled debut album followed in 2011 with two singles, “Keep Your Head Up” and “Fine By Me.” Then came his latest smash hit, “Honey, I’m Good.” from his second album, “Magazines or Novels,” a “Today” show appearance (where he accidentally took Al Roker’s coffee mug) and a performance with Taylor Swift at one of her concerts.

Essentially, pinch, pinch, pinch.

“You’re always going, OK what’s my next one?” Grammer said.

The success of “Honey, I’m Good.,” was immediate. The song quickly shot to the No. 1 on iTunes’ Adult Pop Songs chart and is currently No. 10 on the overall Top Songs chart.

Grammer attributed the song’s success to its catchy melody and fresh lyrics.

“It’s a different take on a traditional love song,” he said.

It’s about a man dealing with temptation and choosing to stay loyal to the woman he is in a relationship with. Instead of doing something he shouldn’t, he simply says, “I’m good.”

Grammer said he wrote 101 songs over the course of a year before finally landing on “Honey, I’m Good.”

“I was digging in to find something to talk about. I’m always trying to write music that's interesting, to find a new take and find what hasn’t been said yet,” he said.

On Aug. 2, Grammer kicks off a tour with band American Authors. Both acts will play at the Music Farm Columbia on Monday.

Now that he’s on the road to stardom, don’t expect Grammer to sing on the streets anymore, not even for old time’s sake.

“My schedule is pretty intense, so any time I’m home I’m trying to lay on the couch,” he said.

In other words, he doesn’t need to busk. He’s good.
