Big Freedia will headline the Indie Grits river concert on April 16, organizers announced Thursday. Big Freedia, known as the Queen of Bounce, is credited with popularizing Bounce rap, a subgenre of hip-hop originating in New Orleans. Freedia recently appeared in Beyonce's "Formation" video and has a reality television show on Fuse called “Big Freedia: Queen of Bounce.”

“We’re thrilled to welcome Big Freedia to Columbia and Indie Grits,” festival co-director Seth Gadsden said in a press release. “Bounce is exciting, and she puts on an incredible show.”

Indie Grits, now in its 10th year, is April 14-17. There will be film, music, technology and art events throughout the festival. The concert will be on the lot at the beginning of Three Rivers Greenway off of Gist Street.

The concert and all festival events are free. The concert will feature additional bands yet to be announced.
