Soda City Suds Week is back: Bigger, better and sudsier
WHAT: Soda City Suds Week
WHERE: Various locations throughout Columbia and Lexington.
WHEN: Friday, March 18 through Saturday, March 26
In the mood for a beer? Then you’re in luck. Soda City Suds Week is back to bring you all the craft beer you can handle.
There are more than 30 events planned over the course of a week, and Columbia and Lexington businesses have partnered with local breweries to bring you much more than “pint nights” or “kick the keg” evenings.
“We’re excited and encouraged to see an even bigger response from participants in our second year,” said Nick McCormac, president of the Midlands Craft Beer Supporters. “We look forward to what’s shaping up to be another great week of unique events.”
Here’s a sampling of some of the events on tap for the week. Find a complete list at http://sodacitysudsweek.com.

Crafted Beans & Brews

Balanced Brews Happy Hour Yoga
What better way to relax than flow yoga with the scents of malt and hops in the air? Join Yoga with Jean for a special happy hour session of Balanced Brews. Enjoy an hour of yoga followed by the pint or flight of your choice in Conquest’s taproom.
6-9 p.m. Monday, March 21 at Conquest Brewing Company, 947 S. Stadium Road, Columbia
Lotta Firkin’ Tacos
The Whig’s Taco Tuesday gets kicked up a notch as River Rat Brewery, The Frothy Beard Brewing Company, Holy City Brewing, and Brewery 85 take over the taps, and the bar taps a special firkin of a four-way collaboration of cherry wood-smoked rye lager the breweries created.
4-9 p.m. Tuesday March 22 at The Whig, 1200 Main St., Columbia
Beer League Whiffle Ball Tournament
Columbia Brew Bus invites individuals or teams to participate in what organizers say is one of the most epic whiffle ball competitions in the Midlands. Several varieties of craft beer will be on hand, included in your ticket, and all teams will play at least two games, with prizes for the top two.
6-11 p.m. Friday, March 25 at Earlewood Park, 1111 Parkside Drive, Columbia
South Carolina Beer Mile
Four beers, four quarter-mile laps. Can you handle it? Can your friends? South Carolina’s first Official Beer Mile supports Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands.
Noon-4 p.m. Saturday, March 26 at Historic Columbia Speedway, 2001 Charleston Highway, Cayce
THE VIBE: At Soda City Suds Week, think beer – and lots of it. Kegs upon kegs upon kegs will be drained in the name of research, camaraderie and more importantly, to raise a glass to the city and its growing craft industry.
THE VERDICT: The great thing about this weeklong event is the ball’s in your court. You can decide how much – or how little – you want to participate. But just remember, its not every day you get rewarded with a cold one after an hour of yoga or a lap around the track. There are just certain opportunities in life you can’t miss.
