92.1 The Palm is now a Christian radio station
The radio station 92.1 The Palm has been sold to His Radio, a contemporary Christian music station, according to The Palm.
The format flipped Tuesday at 4 p.m., production director Marty Hall said.
Efforts to reach network officials to discuss the sale were unsuccessful Wednesday and Thursday.
The new contemporary Christian music station on 92.1 joins at least seven others in the Columbia market offering gospel or Christian contemporary, rock or talk formats.
On the other hand, The Palm was a rare station in the Midlands, providing handpicked rock and adult alternative music and a platform for local bands and solo artists to be heard. The Palm also worked with ColaDaily.com, an online Midlands news source.
His Radio is operated by Radio Training Network, a not-for-profit organization that owns and/or operates Christian Radio Stations out of Lakeland, Florida. The network has at least 12 stations in North Carolina, Georgia and South Carolina.
In South Carolina, its Christian stations can be heard in the areas of Charleston-Summerville; Greenville-Spartanburg; Anderson; Greenwood; Myrtle Beach-Murrells Inlet; Hilton Head; and in the Midlands, which picks up 106.3 in the Upstate, according to its web site.
Before The Palm, the station was Carolina 92.1 when it sold, along with another station, in 2012. Hootie & the Blowfish guitarist Mark Bryan was a partner in the venture between Hometown Columbia, Davis Media and Triple M Broadcasting to purchase the stations. The station was rebranded The Palm, a nod to South Carolina’s nickname as the Palmetto State.
