Driver killed near Eastover Tuesday when his vehicle leaves the road and hits tree

The driver of a 2007 Hyundai SUV was killed Tuesday afternoon when his vehicle left the road and hit a tree near Eastover.

The accident occurred on Garners Ferry Road near Louis Leconte Road around 5 p.m., Lance Corporal Matt Southern of the South Carolina Highway Patrol said. This intersection is near the McEntire Joint National Guard Base.

The driver was taken to Palmetto Health Richland Hospital where he died, Southern said.

The accident remains under investigation.
