Five Columbia firefighters were injured in an explosion at a house where they were fighting a blaze on Saturday afternoon.

“The injuries were not serious,” said Columbia Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins. “They have already been treated and released from the hospital,” he said.

The Columbia Fire Department received a call around 1:45 p.m. about a house fire at 3615 Greenbrier Drive.

The 5 firefighters were inside the house about 9 minutes when the explosion occurred, Jenkins said.
