The body of a 22-year-old male international graduate student from Clemson University was found Monday morning at Lake Harwell.

The death was classified as a suicide, according to Oconee County Coroner Karl E. Addis.

The graduate student is believed to have jumped from the Norfolk Southern trestle that crosses the Seneca River, according to Addis. The body was found on the Oconee County side of the lake.

A post mortem exam was performed Monday to assist with the death investigation and the cause of death was listed as drowning, according to Addis, who added the graduate student had no physical injuries to have caused his death.

The graduate student was from India and lived in an apartment in Clemson near the Norfolk Southern Railway and Lake Hartwell.

An uncle has been notified of the death; he is attempting to notify the parent’s and other family.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Department, Oconee County Coroner Office, with assistance from Clemson Police and Clemson University Police continue to investigate this incident.
