SC closings and cancellations in response to Irma

With Hurricane Irma expected to affect South Carolina by Monday, schools and other organizations around the state are announcing closings, cancellations and changes of plans.

The State will continue to update this list.

Schools

Aiken County Schools: Delayed start on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Allen University: Campus closed through Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Allendale County Schools: Closed Tuesday and tentatively closed Wednesday, Sept. 11-13.

Autism Academy of South Carolina: Delaying the opening of school for two hours on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Bamberg County School District 1: Closed Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Barnwell County Schools: ClosedTuesday, Sept. 12.

Ben Lippen School (Columbia): Delaying the opening of school for two hours on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Benedict College: Classes canceled Tuesday, Sept. 12. Dining hall and student health center services will remain open.

Berkeley County Schools: Offices and Schools closed through Tuesday, Sept. 12. All after-school activities and sporting events scheduled for Friday will be rescheduled.

Calhoun County Schools: Closed Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Charleston County Schools: Closed through Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Charleston School of Law: Scheduled to reopen Thursday, Sept. 14, at 7:30 a.m.

Charleston Southern University: Campus remains closed.

The Citadel: Classes and campus events are canceled through Tuesday, Sept. 12. Citadel employees will return to work on Wednesday, if not deemed “essential for recovery efforts” earlier. Barracks for cadets will reopen at 1 p.m. Wednesday, with muster formation scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday. Classes for cadets and the graduate college resume Thursday, Sept. 14.

Claflin University: Closed Tuesday, Sept .12.

Coastal Carolina University: Classes and events canceled through Tuesday, Sept. 12. Campus is not closed.

College of Charleston: All classes and events canceled beginning Friday, Sept. 8.

Colleton County Schools: Closed through Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Columbia College: Tuesday classes have been canceled, but offices will reopen at 11 a.m.

Clarendon School District 1: Closed Tuesday.

Clarendon School District 2: Closed Tuesday.

Clarendon School District 3: Closed Tuesday.

Clemson University: Main campus closed Tuesday, classes canceled.

Columbia International University: Classes canceled Tuesday.

Denmark Technical College: Closed Tuesday.

Dorchester School District Two: Closed through Tuesday, Sept. 12. All extra-curricular activities, events, and extended day programs scheduled for Friday through Tuesday are also canceled.

Dorchester School District Four: Closed through Tuesday, Sept. 12.

East Point Academy: Delaying the opening of school for two hours on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Francis Marion University: Possible delayed opening or closure on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Georgetown County: Schools closed Tuesday with return to normal operations on Wednesday.

Kershaw County Schools: Delaying the opening of school for two hours on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Laurence Manning Academy (Manning): Closed Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Lexington School District 1: Delaying the opening of school for two hours on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Lexington School District 2: Delaying the opening of school for two hours on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Lexington School District 3: Delaying the opening of school for two hours on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Lexington School District 4: Delaying the opening of school for two hours on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Lexington-Richland District 5: Delaying the opening of school for two hours on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Midlands Technical College: Delaying the opening of school for two hours on Tuesday, Sept. 12, classes begin at 10 a.m.

MUSC: University campus will resume normal operations on Wednesday, Sept. 13. Outpatient operations will return to normal on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Newberry School District: Delaying the opening of school for two hours on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Orangeburg County School District 3: Closed Tuesday, Sept. 12. The Board of Trustees meeting scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 12, will be rescheduled.

Orangeburg County School District 4: Closed Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Orangeburg County School District 5: Closed Tuesday, Sept. 12. The Board of Trustees meeting scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 12, will be rescheduled.

Richland 1 schools: Delaying the opening of school for two hours on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Richland 2 schools: Delaying the opening of school for two hours on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Saluda County Schools: Delaying the opening of school for two hours on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

S.C. State University: Closed on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Sumter County Schools: Delaying the opening of school for two hours on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Thomas Sumter Academy: Delaying the opening of school for two hours on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

University of South Carolina: Columbia will reopen Tuesday, Sept. 12, at 10 a.m. Classes scheduled to start before 10 a.m. Tuesday are canceled. Classes beginning at 10 a.m. or later will resume as scheduled.

University of South Carolina-Beaufort: Closed Tuesday, Sept. 12. No date set for reopening.

University of South Carolina-Salkehatchie: Walterboro and Allendale campuses closed Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Williamsburg County Schools: Closed Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Government

Aiken County: Government Offices and departments will be open on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Richland County: Government offices will reopen at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12.

City of Cayce: Monday’s trash collection will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 13. Collection for Tuesday, Sept. 12, remains on schedule. Trash cans, bins, bags or other items that could become projectiles should be secured. Muncipal court will be closed Tuesday.

City of Columbia: Offices will reopen at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Columbia solid waste pickup: Garbage, recycling and yard trash services will be delayed by one day. Monday’s collection areas will be serviced on Tuesday, Sept. 12, and Tuesday’s collection areas will be serviced on Wednesday, Sept. 12. Overflow garbage can be placed in bags next to the green roll cart. Overflow recycling can be placed in a cardboard box next to the blue roll cart.

West Columbia solid waste pickup: On Tuesday, sanitation crews will collect items on both the Monday and Tuesday routes.

Lexington County Government and Administrative Offices: Offices will reopen on Tuesday, Sept. 12 under normal business hours. Reopening includes all the following offices:

Sports

Presbyterian vs. USC Upstate women’s soccer: Game scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 12, has been moved to Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Other services

Eau Claire Cooperative Health Center: All sites closed Monday, Sept. 11.

Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union: Will reopen for regular business hours on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

SAFE Federal Credit Union: Expected to resume normal operations on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Museums, libraries, parks and other attractions

Charleston-area National Park Service sites: Closed starting Friday, Sept. 8. They include Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor, Fort Moultrie on Sullivan’s Island, the Fort Sumter Visitor Education Center in downtown Charleston and the Charles Pinckney National Historic Site in Mount Pleasant.

Congaree National Park: Closed at noon Saturday. Updates at www.nps.gov/cong.

Fort Sumter: All ferry trips canceled starting Thursday, Sept. 7.

Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art (Charleston): hopes to reopen at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 14. Events scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 10, and Tuesday, Sept. 12, have been canceled or rescheduled.

Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum: Sept. 13 preview of Ken Burns and Lynn Novick mini-series “The Vietnam War” are canceled. Beginning Friday, Sept. 8, all overnight camping reservations aboard the USS Yorktown are suspended.

Cayce-West Columbia Junior Chamber annual Run For Our Troops 9/11 5K: Event has been postponed to Saturday, Nov. 18.

Epworth Children’s Home Food Truck Rodeo (Columbia): Event scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 12, has been rescheduled to Tuesday, Oct. 3.

Fort Johnson Baptist Church (Charleston): The church and preschool are closed through Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Keep the Midlands Beautiful lower Saluda River cleanup: Event scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 16, has been postponed until Saturday, Oct. 21.

Midlands Food Alliance Farmer/Chef Mashup: Event scheduled for Monday, Sept. 11, has been moved to Monday, Oct. 9, at the same time, same place.

Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter: Closed Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Solomon-Tenenbaum Lectureship in Jewish Studies at the University of South Carolina: Event scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 10, will be rescheduled. Visit www.cas.sc.edu to stay updated on a new date.

Sustainable Midlands Farm Tour: Event scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 9, has been moved to Saturday, Sept. 23.

West Columbia Riverwalk: Closed until further notice.
