Richland 2 high school investigating threat of violence

Richland School District 2 is dealing with a possible threat to one of the district’s high schools.

Dr. Sabrina Suber, principal of Richland Northeast High School off Decker Blvd., sent this email to parents of students at the school:

“Dear Richland Northeast Parents,

I’m contacting you today to let you know that we are looking into a message found in a bathroom stall at our school. The message included a threat to our school on a specific date and time in March.

The message was reported to an assistant principal and law enforcement was notified. We have also received reports from some parents, students and teachers that a photograph of the message is circulating on social media.

School and district administrators will cooperate fully with law enforcement officials to investigate the threat to the fullest extent possible.

I want to take this opportunity to reiterate that any threat toward our school is taken seriously. If identified, the individual who put the message in the bathroom will face legal and disciplinary consequences.

We greatly appreciate help from our students, parents and employees who report possible problems to us. Please continue to do that so we can all work together to take the necessary precautions to keep Richland Northeast a safe place for teaching and learning.”

This incident is one of a number of threats to schools that have happened in the wake of the school shooting in Florida on Feb. 14 that left 17 dead. In the past week, law enforcement organizations in Richland, Lexington, Kershaw, Sumter, Spartanburg, Dillon and Fairfield counties have dealt with possible threats to schools made on social media.
