Corrections officer arrested, fired for allegedly attacking inmate
A state correctional officer was arrested and fired from her job for allegedly hitting in the face a handcuffed inmate.
Tierra Shante Armstrong, 25, is facing charges of third degree assault and battery. She was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on Wednesday, according to a statement by the S.C. Department of Corrections.
Armstrong, of Columbia, is accused of hitting a prisoner “in the face several times,” while he was handcuffed on Oct. 1. The arrest warrant states the inmate was “under the custody and control of the officer at the time.” The alleged attack happened at Kirkland Correctional Institution, a high-security prison, in Columbia.
According to the warrant, correctional investigators arrested Armstrong based on victim and witness statements. Armstrong previously worked with state corrections department from January 2013 to August 2015, before being rehired on April 4.
