Murder suspect captured in Columbia after brief manhunt
A brief manhunt for a murder suspect paralyzed parts of Columbia Friday morning.
Jashawn Livingston, 23, was captured through a joint effort by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department and the Columbia Police Department, after he ran away on foot from a crash, according to social media posts from both agencies.
Livingston was wanted on murder charges, though the date of the homicide was not immediately available.
A Columbia Police Department officer who spotted Livingston on Harden Street just after 11 a.m., attempted to pull him over when he sped off in his car, said Lt. Curtis Wilson, spokesman for the sheriff’s department. Livingston then crashed into a parked car and a telephone pole, before fleeing on foot.
K9 officers were dispatched to the scene to join investigators from both agencies searching for Livingston. By 11:36 a.m., the sheriff’s department announced that Livingston had been captured in 2900 block of Burney Drive.
In addition to the murder charge, Livingston will face additional charges related to the car and foot chase, Wilson said.
