Midlands man accused of sexually assaulting 6-year-old
A Lugoff man accused of sexually assaulting a 6-year-old was arrested on Saturday.
Timothy Joel Witkop, 31, is facing charges of criminal sexual conduct with a victim under age 11. He had no prior criminal record, and is being held at the Kershaw County Detention Center without bond until he appears before a General Session Court judge, according to a news release by the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office.
The girl’s mother reported the assaults on her daughter to the sheriff’s office on Friday, after her 6-year-old told her about them, the release stated. On Saturday, Witkop was interviewed by sheriff’s investigator.
Witkop confessed to having “inappropriate sexual activity with the little girl since she was 5 years old,” according to the release. He also provided additional details about his assaults.
Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews condemned Witkop’s actions in a statement.
“Since pedophiles are never rehabilitated, Witkop needs to spend the rest of his life behind bars so he cannot do anything like this again to a child,” Matthews said.
