‘Scraping bodies off the floor,’ SC man allegedly made a bomb threat to work
A South Carolina man was arrested and charged Monday for calling in a bomb threat to his place of employment, according to the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office.
John Alan McDaniels, 43, was charged with making a bomb threat, first offense.
The incident occurred on Jan. 23, according to the sheriff’s office, which said the Latta man called Estes Express Lines, and made a bomb threat “with the intent to intimidate the associates of the business.”
An investigator learned that McDaniel’s motive for calling in the bomb threat was that he didn’t want to go to work, according to Lt. Robert Kilgo, III.
McDaniels was employed by the trucking company when the threat was made to its office in Darlington, Kilgo reported, but couldn’t confirm if McDaniels has been fired.
In his threat, McDaniels allegedly said he had a bomb and “was going to use it and they would be scraping bodies off the floor,” according to the arrest warrant.
Investigators were able to arrest and charge McDaniels relatively quickly because the people at Estes Express Lines knew who he was and identified him immediately, Kilgo said.
McDaniels is being held at the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center and is expected to have a bond hearing on Tuesday.
