Lexington County coroner identifies man shot, killed in West Columbia mobile home park
The Lexington County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim who was shot and killed at a West Columbia mobile home park Sunday evening.
Coroner Margaret Fisher said 45-year-old Hector Vasquez sustained a single gunshot wound to the chest and died while undergoing surgery at a local hospital. Vasquez’s teenage son was also shot and wounded during the incident and transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.
Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said deputies are continuing to investigate the shooting incident that lead to Vasquez’s death. Deputies were dispatched to the mobile home park, which is in the 3900 block of Charleston Highway, in reference to a shooting.
Koon said after further investigation, deputies determined that two suspects, described as black males, approached Vazquez and his son in a dark-colored sedan. The suspects then opened fire on the father and son.
There has been no information released from the sheriff’s department regarding a motive for the shooting.
