Inmate killed, another injured at Lee Correctional during incident
An inmate serving a life sentence for murder at Lee Correctional Institution was killed on Thursday during an incident that left another injured.
The South Carolina Department of Corrections is investigating the incident in which Ae Kingratsaiphon, 35, of Aiken County died, agency spokeswoman Stephanie Givens said.
The extent of the injuries of the second inmate are unknown, but he was taken to an outside medical facility for treatment. Kingratsaiphon has been serving his life sentence since 1999.
Lee Correctional Institution, a maximum security facility in Bishopville, is one of the state’s largest prisons. It is currently housing 1,375 inmates.
