UPDATE: Coroner IDs Columbia man killed in midday shooting that left another wounded

Midday gunfire on Saturday left one man dead and another wounded in the lower body, Columbia police chief Skip Holbrook said.

Donquiese D. Green, 23, was identified as the man who died from a gunshot wound to the upper body according to Richland County Coroner Gary Watts, who performed the autopsy.

Witnesses told police several people were hanging out on the 3400 block of Magrath Street (near Colonial Drive) around 12:15 p.m. when a silver or gray vehicle drove up. An argument between males in the vehicle and Green as well as another person escalated to shots being fired from the vehicle. After the shooting, the vehicle sped off, witnesses told police.

Green, of Northwood Street in Columbia, was pronounced dead at the hospital, the other person was treated for gunshot wounds, Holbrook said.

The Columbia Police Department is investigating the incident.
