Richland deputy’s daughter killed in Orangeburg County wreck

Authorities are searching for answers in the case of a 21-year-old woman who was struck and killed on Monday by a semi truck on Interstate 26.

Dominique Davis, of Columbia, was killed near exit 159 on I-26 near Bowman around 9:41 p.m, the Orangeburg Sheriff’s Department said. Davis has been identified as the daughter of Richland County Sheriff’s Sgt. Latavish Ulmer.

“Sgt. Latavish Ulmer and his family are experiencing devastating grief due to the untimely death of his 21-year-old daughter,” said Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott. “Please keep Sgt. Ulmer and his family in your prayers during this difficult time.”

A witness, who was not identified in the incident report, told investigators Davis might have been pushed out of the van she was traveling in. The witness said Davis’ leg could first be seen coming out of a silver-colored van, but the door was shut. Seconds later, the door reopened, and that’s when Davis might have been pushed.

Authorities are searching for Davis’ friend – a woman identified as “Ebony,” estimated to be between 30 and 35 years old, 5 feet, 2 inches tall, and 120 pounds – who has been named a suspect in the report. Officials also believe there might have been a second, unknown, suspect in the van.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday to determine Davis’ cause of death.
